Francis Laver Counselling

Transition, trauma, conflict, loss, and grief are some of the many human experiences that should be acknowledged, witnessed and supported. Whilst you may be at a challenging point in your life journey, I recognise that trust is needed for you to honour your experiences, memories and emotions safely. My role is to assist you through these periods of questioning and uncertainty.

I am a registered social worker with a clinical private practice on Quadra Island, BC, where I provide counselling to adults through online sessions. My aim is to support clients in addressing individual issues and needs through problem solving processes whilst also encouraging them to challenge their internalisation and to re-evaluate their relationship with self and others. My practice is based on a culturally responsive and anti-oppressive approach. I support clients to reach post traumatic growth and to re-define their value in life and capability in themselves. I also provide advocacy and liaison work with a holistic approach in supporting the overall wellbeing of my clients. I practise with modalities that are evidence based. However, first and foremost I embrace the principle of building a therapeutic alliance and the trusting relationship necessary, the foundation required to facilitate meaningful change through the counselling process.

My social work career started with supporting immigrants and those experiencing poverty. I later worked with women and children fleeing violence and spent many years working with families and children who experienced trauma, violence, mental health disorders, addictions, abuse, and cultural marginalisation. As a social worker, many have honoured me with the opportunity to walk alongside them while they journey through their lives. I continue to learn and grow with these courageous and daring individuals, and I am confident that my knowledge and skills can offer support to those in need through clinical work. I also provide consultation to caregivers who face parenting challenges and can benefit from parenting support.
