24hSexual Assault Services (SAS)

Operating Principles

The Sexual Assault Services (SAS) program provides immediate assistance to survivors who have experienced sexual violence and/or sexual assault.

SAS provides survivors with the resources they need to support their healing. Additionally, this program aims to educate the broader community and work towards the prevention of all sexual violence.

Services Offered

  • A 24-hour support line (250-201-2150) providing immediate emotional support, exploration of options, and resource information to survivors of sexual violence (all genders are welcome).
  • Referrals to emergency counselling at the North Island Survivors' Healing Society (NISHS), and other community resources.
  • Accompaniment to the hospital, police detachment, or court.
  • We explain the process that a person may be facing - from police statement, to charge approval, to trial.
  • We will keep the person updated on the status of the police investigation and court case. We will prepare the person for being a witness and accompany them to trial if requested.
  • We provide assistance with completing the Crime Victim Assistance Program application, Victim Impact Statement, BC Housing applications, etc.
  • We will inform a person of their rights under the Victims of Crime Act.
  • We will make all appropriate referrals to meet the needs of the person.
