24hThe Salvation Army – Evergreen House

Evergreen House is open and performs intake 24 hours per day every day of the year.  Eligibility criteria include men and women 19+, who are medically able to look after their own hygiene and healthe management.  Guests must be physically able to negotiate stairs.  We are a low barrier shelter with established behavioural guidelines to assist guests to stay successfully in a communal, dormitory setting.

The facility is staffed 24 hours per day.  Guests participate in facility and yard maintenance, our food garden and meal preparation.  They can access showers, hygiene supplies, laundry, clothing and other goods, as well as two hot, nutritious meals per day.  A dedicated Case Manager provides support to establish goals, connections and referrals to assist guests to develop and execute a plan to become housed.  There are no time limits on stays and we ask guests to participate fully, as they are able, as equal partners in case planning.  We recognize that each guest has individual challenges and barriers to find, secure and keep housing and that the limited housing is often not accessible or affordable.  We work in partnership with other agencies to ensure we are not discharging people back into the cycle of homelessness.
