North Island Supportive Recovery Society “Second Chance”
The Second Chance Recovery House provides a supportive structure and recovery programs for men aged 18+, assisting their families, and building community ties that result in healthier individuals, families and community.
Programs Offered
- (4) Crisis Stabilization Beds / referral by Crisis Nurses at C R hospital
- (6) Supportive Recovery beds / referral by Mental Health & Addictions
- Individual & group peer counselling
- Life skills training / outings
- Client Resource program / Aftercare Planning
- Two instructive programs daily for clients
- Monday morning co-dependency group attended at mental health and addictions services.
Mission Statement
We welcome through our doors all men who desire to change their lives to live free of addiction.
We offer the following

- Exposure to 12-step model of recovery
What is Second Chance?
A house which provides a safe, home-like living environment, free of alcohol and illicit drugs, that provides essential services to men from the age of 19 and over.
Our Approach
Personal involvement is promoted in goal-planning and action strategies to deal with the ongoing problems of addiction. We work with clients to address aftercare issues such as employment, housing, medical concerns, and relationship building.
Who runs our House?
The North Island Supportive Recovery Society has operated Second Chance since 1990. We are a not-for-profit society dedicated to what we believe to be a fresh approach in creating an environment in which to recover from substance misuse. The society is made up of a dedicated volunteer board of directors.
