MCFD envisions a province where vulnerable children and youth are healthy and safe in their families and communities; where children and youth, including those with special needs, are supported to achieve their full potential; and children, youth, and their families are served by accountable and responsive community-based service delivery systems.
Programs Offered
- Assessment, treatment and consultation
- Referral and liaison with other Mental Health services including child and adolescent psychiatry, paediatrics, Queen Alexandra Centre for Children, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Maples Adolescent
Treatment Centre and Mental Health and Addictions (adult)
- Quick Response/Suicide Prevention Clinician (when staffing permits)
- North Central Vancouver Island Aboriginal Outreach Program – located at Robron Centre
(geographical area includes Campbell River and south to Courtenay/Comox).
Population Served
- Families, children, and youth ages 0-19 with significant mental health difficulties including: life threatening behaviour, depression, anxiety, thought disorders, psychosis and consultations regarding severe behaviour disorders.
- General school population – Prevention activities, presentations about anxiety and depression, and depression information and screening week (when staffing permits).
