Foster Parent Support Services Society – Upper Island

The FPSS Society is a Grass Roots organization committee to providing meaningful and accessible support, education and networking services which will continually enhance the skills and abilities of Foster Parents to deliver the best care possible to the children in their homes.

Programs Offered

Working cooperatively with the MCFD, Vancouver Island Foster Parents and community partners, the FPSS Society has the following services:

  • Peer Support Groups
  • Protocol Support Team
  • Mentoring Program
  • The Island Connection: 5 newsletters annually for Foster Parents free of charge
  • Area Coordinator: Assists Foster Parents obtain current and accurate information, provides support services including training opportunities and development to enhance skills
  • On-going training
  • B.C. Foster Care Education Program: Mandatory training consists of 14 modules which including topics on communication skills, effects of caregiving, child and youth development, attachment, separation and loss, child abuse and neglect, guiding behaviour of children and youth, substance misuse, cultural responsiveness, aboriginal children in care, FAS/FAE/NAS and suicide awareness.
