Victim Services – Community Based
Operating Principles
To provide specialized support to people who have experienced emotional, physical or sexual violence. To develop a safety plan with people who are in a domestic violence situation.
Services Offered
- Our workers have been specially trained in the dynamics of power based crimes.
- We offer practical assistance and information, and provide emotional support.
- We explain the process that a person may be facing - from police statement, to charge approval, to trial.
- We will keep the person updated on the status of the police investigation and court case. We will prepare the person for being a witness and accompany them to trial if requested.
- We provide assistance with completing the Crime Victim Assistance Program application, Victim Impact Statement, BC Housing applications, Family Court papers, etc.
- We will inform a person of their rights under the Victims of Crime Act.
- We will make all appropriate referrals to meet the needs of the person.
- We can provide education on the cycle of violence, healthy relationships, power and control dynamics, and assist in the development of a Safety Plan.
- We provide accompaniment to the police station, hospital, meetings, etc. as requested.
- We provide risk assessments for the courts.
- We provide educational sessions and information to the community.
Population Served
- Women, youth, children and men who have experienced or have witnessed physical, emotional or sexual violence. This includes, but is not limited to, recent or historical criminal harassment, stalking, domestic violence and family issues.
- Service is provided to people from Campbell River and surrounding areas (Gold River, Sayward, and Quadra & Cortes Islands)
